Freedom City Oklahoma

who we are

The Freedom Center of Oklahoma City is a 501c3 nonprofit organization established to educate, empower and enlighten our nation to reflect on the past, present and future of the Civil Rights Movement in Oklahoma.

As caretakers of the historic Freedom Center building, we develop facilities and programs to preserve our history and work towards a world without racism and bigotry.

Mission

To preserve, honor, and activate the legacy of Clara Luper and Oklahoma’s civil rights leaders by educating, inspiring, and engaging future generations.

Vision

A future where civil rights history fuels civic participation, belonging, and justice for all.

Value

Steward of the original Freedom Center building; future operator of the CLCRC; convener of community, education, and cultural programming.

Building the Future

On December 10, 2019, the citizens of Oklahoma City voted to pass MAPS 4, including $25 million for the restoration of the Freedom Center building and the creation of a new Clara Luper Civil Rights Center.

This five-acre campus will be constructed immediately adjacent to the historic building, transforming the city, state and nation’s knowledge of our civil rights history and positively influencing the future of northeast Oklahoma City and our entire community.
