A groundbreaking is anticipated to take place this summer near the Freedom Center at Martin Luther King Avenue and 25th Street.
“I definitely see it as an opportunity for us to have a pride of place where we can really relish, learn from and celebrate this story of civil rights history here in Oklahoma,” Christina Beatty, executive director of Freedom Center OKC, said.
On Wednesday, the MAPS 4 Citizens Advisory Committee received its first look at the design plans for the center, which is designed to highlight civil rights history in honor of the teacher who led world-famous sit-ins in Oklahoma City.
