MISSION
The Freedom Center of Oklahoma City exists to preserve and elevate Oklahoma’s civil rights history while inspiring civic engagement, education, and community dialogue for future generations.
VISION
We envision a future where the stories and lessons of the civil rights movement continue to inspire equitable communities, informed civic participation, and meaningful social change.
OUR HISTORY
Preserving a Legacy of Courage
The Freedom Center’s roots are deeply connected to Oklahoma City’s civil rights movement and the legacy of educator and activist Clara Luper.
As a teacher, organizer, and leader, Clara Luper inspired generations of young people to challenge segregation and demand equal access through nonviolent protest and civic action.
Today, the Freedom Center works to preserve these stories through exhibitions, educational programming, oral histories, archival preservation, and public engagement.
